Installing a package directly from a Git repository is useful when a release has not yet been published or when testing a specific fix. It also introduces reproducibility risk. A branch can change after the notebook was written, so prefer a tagged release or commit revision when possible.
Before installation, inspect the project’s package configuration and dependency requirements. Install it in the Colab runtime, restart if necessary, and verify the import path and version. If dependencies conflict with preinstalled packages, record the runtime state and decide whether a clean environment would be safer.
Private repositories require secure authentication. Never hard-code tokens in a shared notebook or output cell. For research and team work, document the repository revision, Python version, and setup commands. A Git-based installation should be treated as a deliberate development dependency, not a permanent substitute for a tested package release.
