Fifteen strong projects are a command-line task manager, expense tracker, weather dashboard, log analyzer, CSV cleaner, quiz app, URL checker, password-strength checker, markdown report generator, file organizer, habit tracker, recipe search tool, simple REST API, study timer, and image metadata viewer.
Choose a project that demonstrates one clear skill. A command-line app shows control flow and persistence; a data dashboard shows analysis; an API shows validation and error handling; and an automation script shows practical value.
For every project, include a README with the problem, setup instructions, screenshots, sample input and output, limitations, and tests. Use a virtual environment, a pyproject.toml file, meaningful commits, and an issue list that explains future improvements.
Avoid copying a tutorial without changing the requirements. Add one feature that reflects your own judgment, such as import/export, caching, validation, or accessibility. Explain trade-offs in the README. Employers and collaborators learn more from a small, finished project with clear documentation than from a large unfinished clone.
